About Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
Indira Gandhi National Open University was established in 1985 by the Act of Parliament, It is one of the most reputed distance learning national university at IGNOU road, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, India.
It strives to build an inclusive knowledge society by complete education; it has tried to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by providing the high technology by the open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
Initially, the university has started with 2 academic programmes like Diploma in Management also Diploma in Distance Education in 1987 with the strength of 4, 528 students.
But today, it provides the educational aspirations of over 3 million students in India with

The university serves about 228 certificates, degree, diploma. Also doctoral programs with nearly 810 qualified faculties and 574 academic staff at the headquarters.
IGNOU has launched the center for additional learning, the national center for disability students also the national center for innovation in Distance qualification, focus on particular learner groups and enhance the distance learning system.
The university is dedicated to quality in research, teaching, training and additional activities also act as a national resource center for expertise and infrastructure in the ODL system.
IGNOU is standard the authority to award degree by clause 5(1) (iii) of the IGNOU act 1985, it also certified as a Central University by the University Grants Commission of India.

Here’s the General Academic Process in Indira Gandhi National Open University
- IGNOU provides courses in 2 admission cycles i.e., July and December
- Candidates can visit any on the study center which is near to their residencies
- The centers are in colleges, affiliated with IGNOU also all courses are not available in the study center. That they provide only those relevant courses if the college has relevant faculty as per the courses.
- If you want to apply for other courses, you can report directly to the regional center
- And you have to courier your assignments to the regional center since it’s generally in the capital of the state. You have to go to the center in case of practices for the subjects like Psychology.
- After Register of any particular course, all the study materials also with your ID will deliver to your address. Or sometimes you need to collect from center
- As per the cycle you have joined, for the degree, all your exams conduct only after the year, for suppose if you join in may 2016, you will write the exams in June 2017.
- You have to complete all your assignments without fail, if not they won’t permit for the annual exam.
- You have lectures in the relevant study center, they help you in your course taken.
